Rajesh Khanna and Navin Nischol were original choices for the film.Rajesh Khanna wasn't giving time for the film Deewar which was delaying the schedule.hence Yash Chopra called him and said he is replacing him with Amitabh Bachchan and he can keep the signing amount.Navin Nischol then opted out as he did not want to play supporting role to Amitabh Bachchan who had played supporting role alongside him in Parwaana 1971.
The film Sholay was shot extensively in Ramnagaram near Bangalore, India. There are huge rocks of granite in this town which formed the backdrop of Gabbar Singh's hideout. As a mark of respect, the people of Ramnagaram renamed a hamlet in the town as Sippynagar after the director of the movie, Ramesh Sippy.
Happy ending and also a sad ending was shot for the film Bobby. The showman Raj Kapoor kept the happy ending, for this forever evergreen movie.
